Seattle – Montana Road Trip, Part I
This past 4th of July weekend, I went on a road trip to the Glacier National Park in Montana. We left Seattle on Saturday July 1st around 10am. Our first destination on the map was Spokane, Washington. We hit the I-90 interstate highway east bound. This was the first time I was driving east of Snoqualmie Pass and I should say I was not impressed with Eastern Washington. Other than the Columbia River, it is a flat valley with little to see. About 60 miles out of Seattle, the road turns into a straight line and is very boring.
We managed to get to Spokane for lunch. We tried to look for a nice place to eat and we couldn’t easily spot many places that looked appealing to us in and around the downtown area. We finally found a place next to the Spokane River: Red Lion River Inn restaurant. The food was ok and the view was pretty good so I guess we got lucky.
Later, while driving around in the city we found a branch of Anthony’s seafood restaurant located near the Spokane falls. If I happen to be in Spokane again, I would definitely try this one since I know their food must be decent and the view on their deck is pretty good.
We hit the road again on I-90 towards Idaho. Only a couple of miles after you leave Spokane, the scenery completely changes. Lake Coeur d’Alene is truly beautiful and it was packed on the sunny Saturday that we were passing by it. I would definitely consider going back to this lake and enjoying a weekend there.
Another plus for the Idaho portion of our trip was the higher speed limit. Yes, you can legally do 75 mph on I-90. Idaho is such a beautiful state and such a thin one that you barely notice you have completely crossed it and are approaching Montana.
…more to come soon…
