Shayan Zadeh: Practical Entrepreneur

If you are anything like me, your mind is running around coming up with ideas for services/products/businesses all the time. It’s not even structured idea generation. I am doing something in my work/life/soul(yes, I have one!)/sleep/etc and all of a sudden boom. There it is, I am having a genius moment…(read with Eric Cartman voice!)

Most of the time these ideas are totally off what I am/should-be focusing on at the moment. But I still spend some time to clear the idea, look around for possible competitors, think about future uses, all in all day dreaming about starting a business and making it happen.

So, far none of these ideas, except the ones I stumble upon creatively come up with at work, have been developed by me, but that is a completely different story.

More often than not, six months or so after I had my brilliant moment, I hear about a company (happened both with startups and established companies) that is rumored to be working on exactly the same thing. And then in a year or so the damn thing is selling like crazy out there. It’s totally annoying if you ask me!

Ideas are a product of their time.

And I truly believe in this statement. At any time multiple people around the globe deal with the same problem. A small percentage of them think there gotta be a better way to do this. An even smaller percentage figure out a way to do it easier/cheaper/faster/etc not because they are smarted per se, but because the like this mind practice (I truly enjoy the process myself ). Even though this last group is a small minority percentage-wise, it’s still a large number of people considering the size of the group we started with.

Out of this group, only a select few have the resources to do something with their idea and out of those only a few have the courage/conviction/drive to make the idea a reality. Now that group is special, usually rewarded nicely financially and professionally.

I have come very close to joining to that group but haven’t gone there yet. But it won’t be long before I join them in trying. Succeeding is another story!
